The Gyde Memorial Sanctuary Choir is the choir of the Gyde Memorial Pentecostal Church. It was formed in 1969 by Rev. Sheridan Gray, II who was the pastor of the church at the time, and Rev. James Dittimoe, Jr. who was the Minister of Music then. The Gyde Memorial Sanctuary Choir recorded its first album in 1978. The album was very unsuccessful. It only sold 1,212 copies. A number of the choir members left after the failure of the album. The choir went down steadily after that. Dr. Hiram Gilmore revitalized the choir and got its members excited about singing again in 1981. In 1993, the Minister of Music, Min. Jason Carraway, asked the pastor, Dr. Jimmy P. Marrston, if the choir could record another album. Dr. Marrston prayed about it. Two days after he had prayed, his wife walked into his office. She had the choir's first album in her hand. She held the album up and said, "Baby, the choir should do another album. These are some nice songs on here. We should re-release this album." Dr. Marrston smiled and said, "Thank You, Lord." The choir signed with Shelley Volante Records in 1993. They released their album entitled, The Gyde Sanctuary Choir, Let's Try This Again. This time, the album was very successful. Their second CD was released in 1999. It was entitled, This is the Praise. The choir has continued to grow. |
