Shelley Volante was a philanthropist in the city of Rysar. She would often visit area musical events and marvel at all of the talent in the area. She decided that she wanted to provide a means for the artists to showcase their talents. She decided to start a record label in 1980 and she called it, Shelley Volante Records. At first, she had trouble getting artists to sign with her label because she had not correctly set up the company. After two years, she almost gave up her dream of the record company. The company's escape came when Shelley met Craig Thinnor, the manager of Tiffany St. Charles, the first artist to sign with the label. Craig wanted Tiffany signed to a deal and he thought that Shelley Volante could devote the money that was needed. Craig got together with Shelley and helped her to get the record label's business affairs in order. Craig helped her hire a staff and purchase an office complex with a state of the art studio. Shelley music passions were Gospel, R&B, and Jazz music, so she established divisions for all three types of music. Once Shelley Volante Records began its ad campaign, acts started lining up to be signed. Six other acts were signed in 1985 with Tiffany St. Charles; Stacey Alexander, Shirl Young, Starr McClain, The Erickson Triplets, Quintaviun Dayton & Daily Praise, and Dayton Boys. Shelley Volante headed the label until she died in 2000. Craig Thinnor is now president of the label. Shelley Volante Records continues to produce quality music. |
